Using social media is not about a hard sell, It’s not the same as calling a customer and start offering what you have or offer. Instead, it is a relaxed friendly (social) conversation about what you do, how you do it and why you do it.
Here are 10 ideas about things that you can post on social media to promote your business. Remember, not all posts have to be about products or services, posting about other things is ok and making them laugh, giving them tips and sharing other’s people ideas helps them engage in a conversation, it is no different than visiting a customer and asking them about their lives, family, holidays plans, etc. It gives them a sense of your business and the type of person you are.
1. Ask followers to fill-up the blanks (e.g. “If I won the lottery I would……”).
2. Ask simple questions that your followers can answer easily, Don’t ask “How do you cook your eggs, but instead… Who will win the final today.. Andy or Tsonga?
3. Post an image related to your business with your logo on it. For example, if you sell toys, a photo of kids in the background with your logo. This will create familiarity with the brand and also with the products that you sell. Also, always try and add links to your post, so people can actually go to your website with just one click
4. Photos of your products: Your shots can be much better and appealing when they look real, so maybe ask one of your employees to hold one of your products and show how it can be used.
5. Post photos that have nothing to do with your brand and can create an emotion or feeling behind what you offer. (e. g. A photo of the beach on a sunny beautiful day if you service cars. Cars are used by families to go everywhere and driving safely to your holiday destination is something they want)
6. If you manufacture any of your products, take a quick photo of the factory and how people are making them. Mention and feel thankful for your employees for doing the best job on the planet
7. Sharing content from other websites is completely ok, don’t be selfish and share tips and knowledge about what other people know and how they relate to your business. Share someone’s blog, mentioned them in the post and make them feel good about what they do. I am pretty sure you would want others to do the same for you
8. Ask people to give you reviews and send you testimonials. This is one of the most useful things you will be able to use on your website, google, etc. Make sure you are doing all the right things to get the best reviews from your customers.
9. Recommend a tool that can be useful for your followers, (e.g. if you offer skin products, offer tips on how to eat healthily and look after your body. Share a link to your favourite recipe and your favourite holiday spot, book, etc
10. A day in the life post: Share a snapshot of your day at the office, at the warehouse, or even at your garage, don’t worry and never try to show that you are big when you are not, be authentic and keep your spirits up I hope you find these tips useful and if you want to share it on your social media, please do! I would love to know what you do.
